How I fell head over heels in love with colored glass!
What is a dichroic coating? In a simple answer, it is a metal oxide applied to glass within a vacuum chamber. The number of applications will determine the color achieved. Metal oxides used in glass work is also an ancient process and was used starting in A.D. 240 until the mid 4th century when the knowledge of the process was lost.
Compliments from very happy Old House Glass Works customers.
I LOVE color! It is my passion for color that has lead me into exploring many different mediums like faux painting, ceramic glazes, fabrics, etc.; but, it was my journey into the world of stained glass that truly captured my heart. When you stand in a rainbow created by the sun streaming through the beveled edges of a stained glass window, how can you possibly not be happy? Though I have never experienced it, I can surely imagine how standing in one of the mighty cathedrals in Europe and being bathed in the colors of the tremendous stained glass creations they contain, must surely be food for the soul. So, my journey into the world of glass has fed my spirit and brought joy to those clients for whom I built windows. When I fell in love with dichroic coated glass I began to create pieces of soul food in smaller bites and also began to share my creations with many more people. Every woman (and some guys too) love having beautiful jewelry and they especially love it when they have the ONLY piece like it in the whole world! I could never be a production artist as this would be extremely boring and, I fear, crush my creativity; so, to continue to live happily in a rainbow of color and to feed my spirit, I choose to continue my exploration in glass one unique piece at a time. I think my customers like it this way, too!
